The PTI claimed late on Tuesday that police manhandled and “violently detained” the sisters of former prime minister Imran Khan outside Adiala jail in Rawalpindi, where they had been camped out after being denied their weekly meeting with the party founder.
A PTI protest was held outside the jail earlier in the day, where Imran is currently imprisoned, but the jail administration refused to allow party leaders and Imran’s family to meet him. In response, the party staged a sit-in outside the facility, criticising the administration for allegedly violating a court order permitting weekly visits.
In a post on X shortly after midnight, the PTI said Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi and Dr Uzma Khan were “sitting peacefully” outside the jail when police moved in.
The party added that KP Local Government Minister Meena Khan Afridi, MNA Shahid Khattak and other workers, including several women, were also “subjected to violence and picked up by the police”.
“What should be routine, weekly, court-mandated family visits — part of Imran Khan’s rights as a prisoner — are instead being used as a tool of oppression and violence against his family members and supporters,” the party said.
