The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved the establishment of the Special Branch as a formal specialised unit/separate cadre.
A key meeting on the police Special Branch was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi.
During the briefing, officials stated that Special Branch personnel handle intelligence, security, verification, survey, and surveillance duties. They added that 308 personnel from the merged tribal districts have now been integrated into the branch.
The briefing noted that in 2025, the Special Branch neutralised 2 suicide jackets, 32 IEDs, 70 rocket shells, and 288 hand grenades.
Last year, the branch provided security for 635 political gatherings, verified weapons and explosives licences, conducted 3,124 NADRA verifications, 6,840 passport checks, 14,518 CPEC verifications, and 6,060 personal and 9,413 government personnel verifications.
The chief minister approved the establishment of the Special Branch as a formal specialised unit/separate cadre and gave principle approval for creating 1,221 posts within the branch.
