Protests continued for a third day in Gilgit-Baltistan, blocking the Karakoram Highway and other areas against re-polling and delayed official results. The Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commission ordered repolling on several constituencies but supporters of the PPP candidate Attaullah demanded postal ballot counts and immediate announcement of constituency results without further delay.
Travellers faced difficulties as the highway remained closed for three days, leading to increased use of alternative routes. However, protesters temporarily reopened the highway briefly on Wednesday to allow stranded passengers to pass.
PPP candidate Attaullah stated that polling had taken place and Form 45 was issued, while Form 47 indicated his candidate had won by a significant margin. Protesters alleged that the Election Commission’s decision to delay postal ballot counts was unacceptable and accused it of manipulating results in favor of an independent candidate.
