Audit report by Pakistan’s Auditor General has identified over Rs3.4 billion worth of irregularities in the health sector, with major areas including fraud and misappropriation, procurement-related issues, and bank account management problems.
While around Rs127 million was recovered through audit intervention, one department—Pakistan Nursing Council—refused to have its accounts audited, citing it as an autonomous body generating its own revenue. This decision sparked further investigation by the Auditor General who recommended disciplinary actions against those obstructing audit functions and providing non-compliant records.
Additionally, irregularities in vaccine procurement were also noted with federal directives not being followed, leading to potential financial losses of nearly Rs1 billion. The report emphasizes the need for stricter adherence to regulations to prevent such discrepancies from occurring in future audits.
