On Thursday, nationwide Muharram 9 processions concluded peacefully amid tight security arrangements as mourners commemorated the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD. In Islamabad, the main procession started after Zuhr prayers from Markazi Isna Ashari Imambargah in G-6/2 and concluded at the same place later in the evening. In Karachi, the procession departed from Nishtar Park and finished at Imambargah Hussainia Iranian in Kharadar. Similarly, in Hyderabad, the main procession began from Imambargah Chahardah Masoomeen in Latifabad and ended by evening prayers at the same imambargah.
State broadcaster PTV News reported that a total of 81 processions and 386 religious gatherings were organized across Punjab. In Peshawar, the central mourning procession started from Imambargah Hussainia Hall at around 10 am and concluded by 7 pm. The main procession in Quetta emerged from Alamdar Road and finished at Mominabad Imambargah.
State Minister for Interior Tallal Chaudhry chaired a meeting to review security arrangements for Muharram, which included home secretaries and police officials from all provinces, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Home secretaries and law enforcement agencies were directed to make security plans and ensure the safety of citizens during mourning processions and religious gatherings.
