Officials reported on Tuesday that as many as 14 children tragically lost their lives when the roof of a private tutoring center collapsed in Lahore’s Kahna area. Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazeer confirmed the deaths to Geo News, while Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran also provided an update.
A Rescue 1122 spokesperson revealed that eight children were taken with multiple injuries to Lahore General Hospital (LGH), five of whom were in critical condition. Initially, some children had been taken to the nearby Kahna Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital and subsequently moved to LGH. The victims were aged between five and 16 years old.
Minister Nazeer mentioned that two minors had already been discharged from THQ Hospital after receiving treatment. However, it was unclear whether this group included the four remaining injured children under care at the THQ Hospital who had not yet left for LGH.
A statement by Lahore Police indicated rescue efforts were concluded and mentioned two individuals including the house owner had been detained in connection with the investigation. DIG Kamran added that a contractor responsible for recent construction of the house was also among those arrested, as part of collecting evidence and taking strict action against those found negligent. The spokesperson from Edhi rescue service confirmed that the roof collapsed suddenly.
