The People’s Party (PPP) and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) have announced their intention to jointly participate in the upcoming general elections in Azad Kashmir (AJK).
Earlier this month, the AJK Election Commission confirmed that the election would take place on July 27th. This decision comes after a series of discussions between the two parties’ leaders.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman held a meeting at Bhutto’s residence in Islamabad, where they discussed their electoral alliance. During this meeting, Bilawal announced that his party would collaborate with JUI-F to contest the elections.
Bilawal emphasized that the coalition between the two parties would aim to resolve AJK’s issues through peaceful and democratic means. He stressed that legitimate concerns of the Kashmiri people should be addressed via parliamentary processes rather than resorting to street unrest.
PPP Chairman Bilawal also expressed his willingness for JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to engage positively within the country’s political spectrum, highlighting his constructive role during challenging times. He proposed that a dialogue could occur on both government and opposition benches if such an alliance is deemed feasible.
Bilawal further stated that future coalition governments should consider opportunities in Balochistan, Sindh, and AJK. The chairman also expressed hope for peaceful, transparent, and uncontroversial elections to effectively address the concerns of the Kashmiri populace.
