Forty people were killed and eight others injured after a Peshawar-bound passenger bus fell into a ravine as it crossed the Balochistan-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border. The incident occurred when the vehicle left the Dhanasar area in Sherani district of Balochistan, just as it approached Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan.
Initial reports were shared by Balochistan Chief Minister’s aide for media and political affairs, Shahid Rind, who cited initial rescue efforts initiated upon receiving the news. The incident was also confirmed later by KP Rescue 112. Under directives from Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, authorities provided assistance to the affected individuals. Rescue teams from Zhob emergency services and Rescue 1122 arrived at the scene soon after receiving information about the accident and carried out rescue operations.
Eight injured passengers were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Zhob for treatment, while the bodies of those who perished were initially transported to a nearby rural health center. The remains were subsequently moved to the District Headquarters Hospital in Zhob. It was mentioned that 48 people were aboard the bus at the time of the accident.
Emergency services head Sanaullah Sherani reported that the vehicle fell approximately 70 to 80 feet into the ravine, causing significant difficulties for rescue teams due to the rugged mountainous terrain. Deputy Commissioner Wali Khan Kakar confirmed that 36 passengers were initially aboard the bus in Quetta, with additional people boarding from another broken-down bus along the way.
Both Balochistan Chief Minister and KP Rescue 112 issued statements directing an investigation into the causes of the accident. The probe was assigned to the provincial transport secretary for a comprehensive report.
