Punjab’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has unveiled its first skimming boat designed to remove plastic waste from canals and rivers, marking a significant step in the province’s fight against pollution. The new vessel, equipped with a front-mounted waste collection bin, will operate as a pilot project in the Lahore Canal.
EPA officials highlighted that the skimming boat would play a crucial role in collecting floating plastics from waterways, supporting their broader campaign to combat plastic pollution. A seminar held on Friday emphasized efforts towards making Punjab environmentally sustainable and renewed commitments to reducing single-use plastics.
During the event, Parliamentary Secretary for Environment Kanwal Liaqat attended as chief guest, while EPA Punjab’s Director General (DG) Dr Imran Malik was honored as a guest of honour. The seminar brought together various stakeholders including government officials, environmental experts, industry representatives, civil society organizations, media personnel and others.
