The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has temporarily halted a notification by the National Highway Authority (NHA) that would have imposed an additional 50 percent toll on vehicles using motorways without an M-Tag or with insufficient funds in their accounts.
A petition filed by advocate Muhammad Jalal Haider challenged this measure, arguing it was unauthorized as NHA Act only permits it to charge and collect fees for national highways.
The court ordered the respondents – including the federation and NHA – to submit a report detailing how the notification complies with the law, or otherwise provide legal justification within two weeks. The case has been adjourned until August 3rd under these conditions.
