A child was killed and a woman injured in an incident involving what is believed to be a quadcopter attack that occurred on Sunday in the War Mamund tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district. Police sources told Dawn that the attack happened in the Inam Khoro Chinagi area, where authorities suspect the drone may have been fired from an unidentified location. A resident named Hayatullah’s nine-year-old son, Mehran, was killed as a result of the attack, while his 35-year-old mother-in-law, Tahira Bibi, suffered injuries.
The police sources reported that both the child’s body and injured woman were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Khar. A team from the local police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported and gathered evidence for further investigation. The official added that an ongoing investigation is underway.
Recent incidents involving quadcopter attacks have been reported in Bajaur, including one earlier this month where two schoolchildren were killed following a similar attack with the same weapon of choice. Such events highlight the potential dangers posed by these types of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
