A young Kashmiri educationist who had previously fled Indian-occupied Kashmir was critically injured in a targeted attack on Thursday afternoon in Muzaffar.
The principal of Allama Iqbal Memorial School, Arjumand Gulzar Dar, sustained three bullet wounds and is currently in critical condition at the hospital. The police report that he had been receiving security guards to protect him due to threats against his life.
Dar, who originally hailed from Pulwama district in Indian-occupied Kashmir, arrived in Pakistan in January 2018 for studies. He married a local family three years ago and is the father of a young son. Dar had been warned about security threats but was unaware that some guests planned to visit him at noon.
As he went out alone without his guards’ assistance, an assailant shot him from behind in his school’s courtyard. Video footage showed police apprehending the suspect near a ravine after he fled towards Muzaffarfabad’s busy roads.
