The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) announced on Monday that the region can expect a significant monsoon spell beginning in the first week of July. This rainfall is expected to provide much-needed relief from summer heat and replenish water supplies, though it also carries risks such as floods, landslides, and displacement, especially affecting vulnerable areas.
In its advisory, the PMD highlighted that moisture from both the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal would enter Pakistan. Scattered rain, windstorms/thunderstorms with isolated heavy rainfall are predicted in various regions including Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur from July 1st to July 6th. Similar conditions are expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the same period.
Additionally, rain is anticipated across Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, and other cities. Rainfall is also forecasted in regions such as Sargodha, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Sahiwal, Toba Tek Singh, Pakpattan, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Okara, Kasur, Mianwali, Bahawalpur, DG Khan, Multan, Lodhran, and Muzaffargarh from July 3rd to July 5th. Rainfall is also expected in the Gilgit-Baltistan region during the same period.
