The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is closely monitoring potential internet disruptions due to a fault in the SEA-ME-WE 5 (SMW5) international submarine cable system, which may cause intermittent service quality issues.
Transworld Associates (TWA), as the only private-sector operator with exclusive ownership of submarine fibre-optic cable systems, is coordinating efforts to identify and resolve the root cause of the fault. TWA’s technical teams are working diligently to restore services and update customers accordingly.
In a statement, PTA emphasized its ongoing collaboration with relevant stakeholders for monitoring and coordination purposes. Additionally, the ministry highlighted the launch of a new submarine internet cable, SEA-ME-WE 6, in November, which offers one of the lowest-latency routes between Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Western Europe.
