Sialkot Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar has deployed the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority to monitor the Chenab River, following a warning about rising water levels due to India’s opening of dam spillway gates.
Asghar issued a high alert for the Marala Barrage and surrounding areas, emphasizing the need for citizens to avoid unnecessary visits to rivers and canals. She encouraged them to take precautionary measures.
The DC also activated the District Emergency Control Room, directing all relevant departments to monitor the Chenab River continuously and restricting movement along its banks and riverbed. Communication between various institutions will be strengthened to address any sudden changes in water levels.
