The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has set July 1 as a deadline for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad authorities to submit the required maps and data needed for local government elections. LG terms in both regions have ended, with the last term expiring in February 2021.
The ECP convened a key meeting at its headquarters on Tuesday, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, where officials reviewed preparations for local polls in Islamabad and Punjab. The commission expressed concern over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s failure to provide the necessary maps and data for 15 districts.
The ECP has issued notices to the KP chief secretary and local government secretary, requiring them to furnish all required maps and data by July 1st. If not provided, both officials will face hearings where they must explain the delay in providing this critical information.
