A helicopter crash near Ras Tanura, a vital port city in eastern Saudi Arabia, claimed the lives of all 14 passengers aboard, who were all Saudi citizens. The incident occurred on Sunday and was reported by the kingdom’s official press agency, the Saudi Press Agency.
The aircraft belonged to state-owned oil giant Aramco, according to an official statement from the energy ministry. Ras Tanura is home to one of the largest refineries in the Middle East with a capacity of 550,000 barrels per day and critical to Saudi Arabia’s energy sector.
The Saudi Press Agency stated that the crash took place at 6 am local time (0300 GMT) on Sunday. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar extended condolences over the incident through his message on social media, expressing deep grief for the loss of life.
