Despite several high-profile attacks, Pakistan saw an overall reduction in anti-state violence and related security incidents during June, according to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).
PICSS, a think tank based in Islamabad that monitors terrorism, anti-state violence, and security trends, reported 184 terrorists killed in operations by Pakistani security forces. This accounted for the largest share of the total 262 fatalities.
Meanwhile, 52 civilians and 26 security forces personnel were also affected during June. The breakdown showed that 63 civilians, 50 security forces personnel, 18 pro-government peace committee members, and three terrorists were injured. Compared to May, the number of Pakistani security force fatalities declined by 62 percent while civilian deaths dropped by 27 percent.
Terrorist casualties also decreased by 32 percent compared to the previous month. Among those injured, PICSS recorded a 43 percent reduction in security forces casualties, a 57 percent decrease among civilians, and a 67 percent decline among terrorists.
The institute noted that kidnappings saw a significant drop from May, with only 27 people kidnapped in June compared to 54 in May. Pakistani security forces also apprehended at least 27 suspected terrorists during the month.
