Jamaat-i-Islami Pakistan (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman called for meaningful negotiations as the only solution to the ongoing situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), urging government officials to avoid using force.
Rehman emphasized that the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) should be engaged with immediately, saying JI had accepted responsibility for mediation.
The JAAC leader Jaishwani Ahamad expressed confidence in Jamaat-i-Islami, postponing a long march. Rehman urged the government to also act seriously and begin negotiations to resolve legitimate people’s demands.
Rehman stressed that India could exploit the situation for propaganda against Pakistan and the Kashmir cause. He said JI’s mediation with JAAC was within the constitutional framework of Pakistan and the Kashmir issue, calling on all efforts to be made to resolve it.
