Security forces have killed 22 Indian-sponsored terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) North Waziristan district, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The operation began on May 17 and was based on credible intelligence leads about the presence of ‘khwarij’ or Fitna al-Khwarij. This term refers to terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). During the operation, troops engaged with the terrorists in an intense exchange of fire, resulting in 22 khwarij being killed within a 24-hour period. The ISPR also reported that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the dead terrorists, who had been actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area. Additionally, evidence revealed that the terrorists coerced and intimidated local populations to obtain safe passage as human shields. Security forces have cordoned off the area to eliminate remaining ‘khwarij’ and continue their counter-terrorism campaign under the vision ‘Azm-i-Istehkam.’ The resurgence of terrorism in Pakistan, particularly in KP and Balochistan, has prompted intensified security operations against foreign-sponsored terrorist groups.
