A rare albino buffalo nicknamed ‘Donald Trump’ has been spared from Eidul Azha sacrifice after a government intervention, following public curiosity and security concerns.
The nearly 700-kg animal had already been sold for ritual slaughter when authorities stepped in. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed ordered the buffalo be spared, the buyer refunded, and the animal moved to the national zoo in Dhaka.
What began as a routine Eid purchase quickly turned into a nationwide curiosity after videos of the unusual-looking buffalo went viral. The crowd gathered at the farm, with visitors traveling from far afield to see its distinctive blonde tuft and calm demeanor.
The animal’s owner, Ziauddin Mridha, said the name came from his younger brother who noticed the resemblance. He added that the gentle, special care required for the buffalo, including frequent feeding and baths, made it stand out during the peak Eid livestock season.
