Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb underscored the government’s commitment to easing tax burdens, particularly for exporters, manufacturers, IT firms, construction sectors and salaried individuals. In a recent interview on Geo News, he outlined a strategy focused on both deepening existing taxes and broadening them through enforcement and compliance efforts.
Aurangzeb explained that the government aims to combat corruption and evasion by tightening controls over tax loopholes. He also highlighted the necessity of supporting security forces, especially in troubled provinces like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Additionally, he commended provincial cooperation with the federal government on strategic measures.
Despite these proactive steps, Aurangzeb noted that no new taxes would be introduced for the upcoming fiscal year. He acknowledged the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) challenges but indicated a shift towards AI-driven processes to enhance efficiency and reduce human intervention in tax collection.
