PTI Chairman Barrister Gohhar Ali Khan stated on Wednesday that his party was not engaging in talks with the government. He attributed this to the responsibility lying with those who hold authority to respond to PTI’s offer of negotiations.
Gohhar highlighted that the Leader of the Opposition, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, had shown goodwill by shaking hands with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and offering talks with the government. He noted that if anyone perceived this as a weakness, they were mistaken.
The PTI chairman announced plans to decide on upcoming elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) within the next two days, emphasizing that no decision had been made to boycott these polls. Gohhar declared any social media claims regarding such a boycott to be fake.
On internal party differences in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he clarified that the PTI did not intend to replace Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. He added that the leadership was planning to meet with disgruntled Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs) soon and closely monitoring the situation.
Gohhar called for reconciliation in AJK, stating that if people were protesting over grievances, they should do so peacefully. Regarding a recent decision by the AJK Supreme Court to remove PTI’s election symbol without justification, he expressed concern about these actions creating difficulties.
He stressed the importance of holding negotiations to resolve all outstanding issues amicably and emphasized that political issues require political solutions. Gohhar also conveyed reservations regarding the lack of facilities for incarcerated former Prime Minister I. Bhutto.
