Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesman Majed Al Ansari confirmed that US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were in Doha to meet with mediators, Qatari officials, and discuss regional issues. However, no high-level meetings or direct talks between the US and Iran were planned.
According to Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei, a delegation of experts would only travel to Doha later in the week for discussions on the deal, not for direct negotiations with the US. He emphasized that they will continue to negotiate over all areas of the memorandum of understanding (MoU), including Iran’s frozen funds and the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Iran has also held recent talks with Oman regarding the future management of vessels transiting through the Hormuz strait. Traffic in the strait dropped after a vessel was struck while navigating the waterway on Saturday.
